About our team
GM Technology & Major Cap Group | ICT Division | Technology Operations & Support | Foundation Services
The Technology Operations & Support Branch is responsible for the operational support and maintenance of the Departments ICT infrastructure and software platforms that underpin Home Affairs technology services.
This includes 24/7 support of visa processing, risk analysis and alert systems, corporate systems and the Department's classified systems. The Branch consists of eight sections:
- Classified Systems Delivery
- Collaboration Infrastructure Services
- Program Services
- Foundation Services
- Platform Services
- Infrastructure Assurance
- Engineering Services
- Delivery Management.
The Storage and Data Protection Team within Foundation Services manage the Departments storage operations and Data Protection services. The Storage Team is responsible for defining, deploying and maintaining the Departments Enterprise Storage capability (block, file and object).

Our ideal candidate
- Professional experience and expert storage system knowledge in implementation and administration of storage systems in a large complex enterprise
- Proven track record of enhancing a storage environments capability
- Ability to influence and contribute to strategic and architectural direction
- Strong understanding of business needs and how people, processes, information and technology can be leveraged to improve capability
- Experience in coaching and mentoring staff.
Duties and responsibilities
- As a senior member of the team you will be responsible for delivering infrastructure services across multiple environments, providing a significant contribution to strategic planning and ICT service delivery
- Provide detailed technical Subject Matter Expertise and technical guidance to the Director and members of the Storage team applying detailed technical knowledge to ensure solutions are implemented effectively and with a strong emphasis on high quality
- Development of documentation artefacts in respect to standard operating procedures, builds, configuration and troubleshooting guides and performs periodic reviews to ensure the information is current and relevant
- Validation that the Department's Storage environment and supporting infrastructure is architected and configured according to industry best practices. Additionally, understand product roadmaps and organisational requirements of the platform as they evolve so they can be incorporated into future deployments and upgrades
- Provide mentoring, leadership, training and building commitment within the team based on shared goals.
Additional information
- Significant operational experience in a large complex enterprise Storage environment
- Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, or Five or more years relevant experience in supporting Dell Storage systems in an enterprise environment will be highly regarded
- Able to represent the Storage section in internal and external forums in matters pertaining to the operation of the storage environment
- Able to be an after-hours point of contact for on-call officer to escalate technical issues and also escalate those issues as appropriate to the Director or the relevant Assistant Secretary if required
- Proven ability to achieve results and manage competing demands within a dynamic environment
- Proven ability to work within a structured IT governance framework and deliver results that adhere to relevant commonwealth standards and policies
- Ability to plan, set priorities, manage resources and produce high quality results within specified timeframes.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 2 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
- ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC)
- Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
