We are a team of policy, data, health and law-enforcement specialists committed to creating a healthier and safer Australia free from illicit tobacco and e-cigarettes (ITEC). Established in 2024 to drive whole-of-government action against the ITEC market, we seek to reduce public health risks, uphold regulatory integrity, and minimise social and economic harm through the development of evidence-based policy and forging of strong cross-agency relationships. We work closely with all levels of government to shape a focused and coordinated national response to the ITEC market.

Temporary Employment Register


The Temporary Employment Register is open to candidates to submit an expression of interest for employment with the Office of the ITEC Commissioner at the APS4 – EL1 levels. The Register enables us to access appropriately skilled and experienced individuals at short notice for non-ongoing or temporary positions.

 

Please note that:

 

  • Roles are intended to be offered on a temporary basis only (non-ongoing specified term).
  • Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled as a specified term vacancy for up to 12 months with a possibility of extension (maximum term of 18 months).
  • Permanent s26 transfers at level may be available for current APS employees looking for permanent transfers.
  • This register does not support ongoing engagement or promotion under the Public Service Act 1999.
  • You will only be contacted regarding your expression of interest if an opportunity arises that matches your skills and experience.
  • Your expression of interest is not a guarantee that an offer of employment will be made.
  • Expressions of interest remain active until 30 June 2026. Applications are not carried over after this time, you will be required to submit a new expression of interest for the following year.

 

About the roles

Experience in a strategy or policy environment (particularly around regulation, intelligence or law enforcement) is a plus, but not essential. Terms and conditions of employment in the Department, including pay scales, are provided for by the Enterprise Agreement 2024 – 2027. The Enterprise Agreement applies to all non-SES employees within the Department employed under the Public Service Act 1999.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
