About our team
About our opportunities:
Do you enjoy working in operational roles and enjoy working with dynamic and challenging content? Are you interested in working in a role that has a direct impact on Government priorities and has a direct impact on the Australian community?
We have a number of vacancies within our Field and Removals Branch's that contribute to managing and upholding the integrity of Australia's migration program. These roles will provide the right people with unique and challenging opportunities to develop and enhance their skills, whilst working on complex cases and issues within a high profile and politically sensitive environment.
Field Operations
Field Operations is an operational enforcement capability of the Immigration Compliance Operations Division with a multi-faceted, field-based enforcement capability that is responsive to operational priorities. The Field Operations Branch harnesses specialist enforcement and investigative capabilities to target serious and organised crime, serious and deliberate non-compliance and systematic vulnerabilities that threaten the integrity of Australia's trade and migration systems. Field Operations Officers conduct a range of intelligence informed, risk-based operations improving compliance with immigration laws by locating and detaining unlawful non-citizens who are identified as a risk to the safety of the community or who pose a threat.
There are three teams in Victoria:
- Field Operations - responsible for conducting operations to locate non-citizens in the community who have overstayed their visa expiry date or are breaching visa conditions, undertaking compliance and enforcement actions as required
- Criminal Cases Victoria– responsible for monitoring non-citizens within the criminal justice system and coordinating the detention of non-citizens who are released from criminal custody
- National Immigration Status Service – NISS is a 24/7 national telephone and email service that performs two main functions in partnership with law enforcement agencies (LEA). The team provides immigration status information to LEA’s in relation to individuals suspected of being unlawful non-citizens (UNCs); and once NISS has established that an individual is a UNC, and following that there is confirmation that there is an ongoing law enforcement interest in the individual, the NISS will make a decision to either grant a short term visa or continue the individual’s immigration
Removal Operations
Staff who work in the Removal Operations Branch contribute to the integrity of the Australian migration program by facilitating the removal of unlawful non-citizens who have no lawful pathway to remain in Australia. The removal of unlawful non-citizens is a key enforcement tool in supporting integrity within the migration program and sends a strong message deterring those considering exploiting Australia's borders.
